Josie Johnson (1930-Present) was born in San Antonio, Texas, and became a community organizer after moving to Minneasota. She is considered to be the First Lady of Minnesota Civil Rights. Johnson fought against housing and employment discrimination. Johnson is the first black person to be appointed to the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents. Johnson continues to be politically active, participating in Black Lives Matter protests.
