I've had this yellow color for a while and thought that it really matches the Girl with the Pearl Earring painting. I think this piece is proof that you can be a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time. I didn't capture something in the eyes in this painting, but I learned something from it. This is my first brart on a small art panel. A lot of my brart is on 2'x2' or bigger. This is on a 9"x12" panel, so it is much smaller.

I am so excited to have a gallery showing at Urban Growler Brewery in April of 2022 for 3 months. Urban Growler is the first woman owned micro-brewery in Minnesota. They have some Wonder Woman art in the brewery already. I'm hoping to create a series of Wonder Woman images.

She immediately got alot of commentary that she was wearing an expensive dress and was being a hypocrite. Her response was 'The message is in the medium" YES. YES, AOC. THE MESSAGE IS IN THE MEDIUM. AOC had always been on my list, but I developed a visual for her brart in that moment.
I once heard a quote that said "the difference between a good painting and a great painting is a few brush strokes." I think this is a great example of a few brush strokes making a huge impact on a piece of art. I try and take progress shots for a piece. Nina Simone on old piano pieces.
My general process is to trace out a portrait in pencil or marker. I usually make the portrait very shortly after I trace it. Nina sat in my living room for a few weeks. I was somewhere between intimidated and really wanting to make sure I had a clear vision for this portrait. Nina Simone had so many challenges in life that I really felt like this portrait had to be spot on. I'm very pleased with how this likeness turned out. |
